Collagen Firming Lotions - Are Popular Brands Safe

How do you find the best collagen firming lotions? What are the most effective and safest ingredients? That's what you really need to know. I recently looked at the ingredients in several popular products. Here are the results.

Burt's Firming Lotion

I usually like Burt's products, because most of them contain honey. It's not the most active variety of honey. Manuka is the best. But, all varieties of honey have some antibacterial and antioxidant activity.

But, Burt's new firming lotion contains "royal jelly". I wasn't familiar with the ingredient, so I looked it up.

Royal jelly is a bee secretion used to feed the growing larvae. If the hive needs a queen, a larva is chosen and fed only royal jelly for the first four days of growth. I guess the name makes sense.

But, what is good for the hive is not necessarily good for people. The jelly causes allergic reactions ranging from hives to asthma and anaphylactic shock.

The best collagen firming lotions contain honey. The worst may be Burt's.

Avon Anew Firming Lotion

I hate to put down Avon products, but I haven't read any good reviews for this product. Although, I have read a lot of negative ones. Allergic reactions, rashes, irritation and bad smell are among them. But, mostly people just want you to know that it doesn't work. One lady couldn't wait for the bottle to be empty!

The best collagen firming lotions come with a no-risk money back guarantee. Avon does not.

Clarins "Extra" Firming Lotion

Clarins used to have a reputation for safe and effective ingredients. Either things have changed or new research has found that the ingredients are not so safe and effective. I'm not sure which the case is. But, in either case, their "extra" firming lotion contains too many hazardous chemicals to even list all of them here. I'll just mention some of the worst.

**ALUMINUM STARCH OCTENYLSUCCIANTE: toxic to the nervous system, the reproductive system and the organs. Can easily be contaminated with lead and arsenic.

**TRICLOSAN: an antibacterial agent listed as a "probable human carcinogen".

**LIMONENE: a skin irritant

**PARABENS: used as preservatives, they are endocrine disruptors and toxic to the organs or the human body.

The best collagen firming lotions do not contain synthetic chemicals, artificial preservatives, known allergens or probably carcinogens. They are literally safe enough to eat.

Best Firming Lotion

Look for the ingredients Functional Keratin, Wakame Kelp and H EQ10. Functional Keratin is a patented active protein that stimulates skin cell production and collagen growth. Kelp prevents the loss of hyaluronic acid, which increases firmness. H EQ10 is primarily a preventative antioxidant, but it can repair some of the damage that time has done.

Moisture is equivalent to firmness. One of the most effective moisturizers is grape seed oil. It dries to an invisible film that locks in moisture, keeps out dirt and grime.

Only the best collagen firming lotions contain these four ingredients. It's worth your effort to look for them.

Cinema Therapy in Counseling and Psychotherapy

Cinema Therapy in Counseling and Psychotherapy

Cinema therapy is a modern therapy technique where therapists use the films as a tool in therapy. Some therapists think that cinema therapy can have a positive influence on clients suffering from a wide variety of psychiatric disorders including anxiety disorders like PTSD and OCD, depression, addiction, eating disorders and even relationship issues.

Metaphors from a film are often used in cinema therapy. For example, in cognitive behavior therapy, a film might help by playing an important role in helping the client to understand the maladaptive thinking and beliefs as well as to reconstruct the cognition.

Cinema therapy can also be instructive to clients as they gain insights that can be motivating. Often, a character in a film behaves in a way that displays courage in the face of a particular challenge. In this manner, the client can model the behavior from the film which in turn can make therapy more effective.

Many therapists use cinema therapy as a supporting tool for their therapeutic approach. Movies can be psycho-educational as they present unfamiliar concepts of family and organizational systems. Sometimes, films are better than words alone when it comes to helping a client to reach a new understanding.

Another interesting application of cinema therapy has to do with the theory of learning. According to this theory people are made up of several types of intelligences. When we use more than one type of intelligence, we actually learn faster. Watching movies can affect seven types of intelligence which are the following:

interpersonal (storytelling)
intrapsychic (inner guidance)
kinesthetic (moving)
linguistic (dialogue)
logical (plot)
musical (sounds and music)
visual-spatial (pictures, colors, symbols)

Therapists have long known that films have powerful effect on our psyche. However, some movies may be too traumatic for some people. Because of this, there are guidelines for choosing a film for cinema therapy. First of all, it is important to choose a film that reflects the clients present situation. Movies chosen for cinema therapy should be contain the therapeutic context such as anxiety, marriage problems, or depression.

The therapists experience using cinema therapy may be limited. In this case, the therapist may simply begin by talking about how a particular scene or character in a movie made the client feel. A more experienced cinema therapist might take more of a psychoanalytical approach and actually use psychodynamic and cognitive-behavioral approaches in conjunction with discussing a film.

Therapists often give clients some guidelines for watching a film for cinema therapy. Such guidelines usually include asking the client to get as comfortable as possible and to reduce the amount of distractions and interruptions while watching the film. After the film is over, journal about your reactions to the film. Ask yourself what you liked and disliked about the film. If you identified with any of the films character, how did that affect you? Finally, make sure to discuss whatever you write down with your therapist in your next session.

Cichlid Diseases and How to Treat Them

Cichlid Diseases and How to Treat Them

Image source: https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEianAP44_2xgdJGPo5QN341t8AtGVffa8iJouZYYWpevyR9rI_rrKVxIV3bU6gZJRlZnls701t0jue1WszD9F3VNGnUW6Y-1lQrPVyfcMIVPqjC3REAStAeZu7v_cM8alqlzlDW7fFJuDQ/s1600/DSC06464.jpg

Taking care of cichlids is a pretty simple task provided you adhere to some simple guidelines. Cichlids like you and I also suffer from sickness and diseases, and as their owner it is your responsibility to keep them at optimal health, meaning its good to keep an eye out for any signs of disease or sickness. If you neglect your fish then they will surely peril.

Diseases in cichlid fish can be caused by parasites in the body, fungi on their exterior and also bad bacteria in the tank water.

Things that you want to look out for are cloudy or puffy eyes, sores on their bodies, loss of color, restricted movement, bloating of stomach or internal organs. Any of these symptoms are usually caused by some sort of bacterial infection.

If you observe any strange looking growth around the face area or sporadic behavior in the tank like darting about in a crazy manner you may be looking at some sort of fungal infection.

If you see any weak breathing, impaired movement, mucus growth on the skin, loss of appetite, spots, intense scratching. These are generally the sign of parasite infection which may include leeches, worms or lice.

Just about the most common cichlid disease is Hole in the head disease. Hexamita, usually results in rapid weight loss and a major loss of appetite, and you will also notice little indentations on and around the head area.

Yet another really frequent cichlid illness is actually Ich or Ichtyophthirius. With this particular ailment whitened crystal marks show up on the head first, and then propagate over the entire body. Inhaling and exhaling is fast, the fish scrapes a great deal, and also the eye balls and fins all become cloudy.

When the belly is enlarged, and you find reddish scales encircling this area, it is possible that the cichlid is actually struggling with Dropsy. This may be because of germs, parasites, or even cancer. The best way to deal with this is saltwater treatment.

If you neglect their water conditions then your fish may end up with Fish Pox, Fin Rot or even Ammonia poisoning.

Columnaris or Cotton Wool Disease is one you must be very wary of as it is very contagious. Symptoms will be a grey/white layer on the skin, fin damage, ulcers and sores, loss of color in the gills. You must treat this immediately with a good antibiotic type treatment, and u will have to treat the whole tank. This is the same for Fish Tuberculosis, which is also very contagious.

Another parasite type infection is Slime Disease which causes a white coating of the skin, sporadic movement, reddening around the gills and even folded fins. You must treat this straight away with a good parasitic medication and also by raising the water temperature a degree or two.

Cichlids can also suffer from constipation which will cause a swelling of the stomach, loss of appetite, and erratic swimming. They may have feces trailing behind them. The best way to fix this is to starve them for two days then start them on a different diet.

On the subject of diet if you over feed your fish they may end up with Swim Bladder disease which will cause difficulty in swimming, swimming upside down, floating. These symptoms also can mean Flip over disease.

One popular way of dealing with diseases is salt treatment, but this should ideally only be done in a quarantine tank as other fish may be negatively affected. Plus it will not guarantee a cure for all diseases.

Now because an aquarium is such a small closed environment, without proper monitoring and treatment can become a disease incubator. Regular cleaning of your tank and water will be your best weapon against disease in your aquarium.

It is best to spot these things as early as possible so as to implement a cure strategy before it is too late....Good Luck

Church Of Profitis Elias In Protaras Cyprus

Church Of Profitis Elias In Protaras Cyprus

The church of Profitis Elias is well worth a look especially if you need to burn off a few of those excess holiday pounds you may be piling on after visiting those great restaurants and bars that Protaras is famous for. Due to the fact that its perched on a rock 115 meters above the resort you will be climbing about the same number of steps (115) to get to it. Once at the top however and provided that you survive the climb the views are magnificent. In fact you can see that all the small private clinics catering for heart attack victims are actually quite close by.
Seriously though, the panoramic views are stunning and on clear days you can see right across to Famagusta. The church of Profitis Elias is named after the Prophet Elijah who featured in the old testament of the bible. Roundabout the 9th century BC he was sent by God to the sinful King of Israel called Ahab and his wicked wife Jezebel (now you know where that comes from) to show them the error of their ways because they were amongst other things worshiping some false God called Baal. Unfortunately Elijah was not too warmly received and the wicked King even threatened to kill him.

So he hides out up the mountains in a cave and God sends a crow every day with food in its beak. There is also a nearby stream for water but due to a drought that Elijah prophesied about that eventually dries out. Driven out by hunger and thirst the prophet is offered shelter by poor widow living alone with her only son. Elijah performs a miracle with the tiny amount of food in the house and even raises her son back to life after he dies due to illness. The drought last for three years and many of the Israelites die of starvation due to the bareness of the land.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, after a period on the run Elijah returns and eventually puts this false God to the test by challenging the priest to pray for fire from above for the burning of a sacrifice. Of course it doesnt happen, however God does send fire to consume Elijahs offering even though its soaked with water and the Israelites turn back to God. Later in his life God decides to draw Elijah closer to himself without putting him through the pain of death and takes him up in a chariot of fire. (great film).

So there you go then, Profitis Elias is not just some church on a rock with amazing views its also a tribute to the prophet Elijah and theres more too. Most Cypriots are named after a saint like Michael, Peter ect and even, yes you guessed it Elias. With derivatives like elianna for girls. Every year there is a naming day when the icon is carried outside the church so that people may pass under it to receive a blessing from the saint. Its a time of celebration and there is a traditional market in the streets below. All in all then its well worth a trip up to take a look at the church of Profitis Elias in Protaras Cyprus.

As the holidays approach and excitement builds, the countdown to Christmas Day begins. There are several ways to keep track of how many days remain until Christmas. For some, it is a simple matter of marking bold Xs on a calendar, but many others look for something more interactive and entertaining.
Some folks enjoy Advent or Christmas calendars with little windows to open and tiny chocolate treasures inside. Then there are those who look forward to the local radio stations adding Christmas songs to their daily programming. Yet others religiously watch their favorite Christmas movies as the TV stations provide their version of the Christmas countdown.

What many people may not realize is that there are also free Christmas screensavers designed to help build excitement as the holiday season draws near. Christmas Countdown and Santas Workshop 3D are two such screensavers. These free downloads add fun Christmas scenes to your screen and keep you engaged during the thrilling build up to Christmas Day.

Christmas Countdown Screensaver begins with a tinsel laced evergreen tucked into a snowy mountain scene. Prior to December, beautiful and calming piano music plays while a gentle snow falls. An occasional animated animal will visit the scene and add their voice to the mix while shooting stars brighten the darkening sky. On Dec. 1, a transformation begins as the screensaver becomes a countdown calendar. Each day, a calendar door will open to reveal a new addition to the pristine setting. The lovely evergreen becomes even more enchanting as Christmas decorations are applied and new wildlife comes to visit. A snowman, cozy cottage, and other surprises add a bit of winter wonder to the mountainous landscape. When Christmas Day finally arrives, your screen is filled with a full holiday scene.

Christmas Countdown progresses daily towards a festive backdrop, but Santa's Workshop 3D Screensaver is a snapshot from the North Pole right from the beginning. As the Nutcracker Suite plays in the background and snow floats lazily to the ground outside, a roaring fire keeps Santas helpers warm and toasty while they busily prepare for Christmas Day. Above the hearth, a calendar reminds you and the elves how many days are left until Christmas.

With so many ways to get into the Christmas spirit, let the countdown begin! Mark Xs on your calendar, set your radio to the station that plays the best Christmas songs, watch your all-time favorite Christmas movies on TV, and dont forget to download a fun and free Christmas screensaver for the holidays.

CHRISTMAS A HALLMARK MYTH

CHRISTMAS A HALLMARK MYTH

Image source: http://www.redriderleglamps.com/skin/frontend/default/acsh/images/sliders/hallmark-2015-christmas-story-now-available.jpg

I grew up in the Midwest during the end of what climatologists call the Little Ice Age; a short period of time when the Northern Hemisphere was supposedly much colder than normal. What I recall about winter, up through my undergraduate college days, are frequent cold snaps and snow falling shortly after Thanksgiving accompanied by a season-long hard freeze. We built snowmen, had snowball fights and sledded down a hill at the local cemetery for the entire month of December. Snow continued to fall throughout the month, and rivers, lakes, and ponds were solid enough to support ice skatingand/or the occasional teenaged driver slipping and sliding in his hotrod from shore to shore. We did not have sleigh ridesthose disappeared (along with stringing popcorn) with my parents generation due to the invention of the snowplow. Sudden thought: Once in a while wed bully each other by taking someone down and washing his face with snowgave one a nice ruddy complexion, yknow?
Starting about the second week of December, raucous office parties took place, and in the streets, inebriated carolers reeled from house to house; except carolers from churches (I surmise) remained sober. They sang longer, but not as loud as their intoxicated counterparts. Inside, mistletoe hung, chestnuts were roasted over a fireplace, bowls of nuts with nutcrackers were on tables, and mothers made divinity and fudge. Christmas trees had simulated snow called angel hair wrapped around the bottom, a substance made from spun glass that children were warned not to touch. Bubble lights hung on the tree with homemade red and green chains, and tinsel was liberally thrown from top to bottom. I also remember little gumdrop trees on tables, and bowls of red, green, and white hard candy. The latter makes my teeth hurt just thinking about it.

Downtown was gaily decorated, and Christmas music was piped into the streets competing with Salvation Army bell ringers. People were bundled up; stores and bars did a bustling businesshappy folks buying each other cocktails. Churches had Nativity scenesand I believe the town did as well in the town squareours was actually a triangle.

In other words, these are scenes now only lived in Hallmark movies. Perhaps there are places in the northeast or Minnesota where they still play out. I dont know. I do know that after I returned home after living in SoCal everything had changedmostly the weather. Often, snow doesnt fall in quantity until January, and hard freezes are rarecertainly not enough for ice skating. The latter probably doesnt matter since sue-happy society has relegated skating to inside rinks; if you can find one. Much of the Christmas Hallmark scenario has gone the way of hayrides and apple-bobbing at Halloweenthat is, gone for good.

Also gone from yesteryear is (practically) everyone smoking, thinking maybe lighting-up helped drive away the chill; holiday-decorated cigarette cartons, and gifts like cigarette lighters, and other smoking paraphernalia. Christmas (not Holiday) specials were also different back-in-the-day featuring a mix of happy snowman and Santa Claus tunes with religious songs batting clean-up near the end of the show. The presentation was joyful and upbeat often with cast family members making an appearance: Perry Como, Lawrence Welk, Bing Crosby, Andy Williams, Arthur Godfrey, Pat Boone, etc., etc. That said, I am traumatized to this very day by one particular show ending. The scene was an attractive woman in whiteovercoat, hat, and muffwith snow falling and a white church steeple in the background. The light was filtered making the scene even more compelling. Music began with the familiar intro notes to O Holy Night. Then it happened; the woman opened her mouth and started to sing. It sounded like an out-of-tune Bob Dylan-type voice with poor enunciating skills. Talk about nails on a chalkboard or grinding gears. It was Cher! Now I have no problem with Cher except when she decides to warble a difficult song written for an operatic soprano. What were the producers thinking? It was gosh-awfulworse!

My point is Christmas is no longer like a Hallmark movie except in our memories or in the fantasies of younger folks. So-called political progressives are against Christmas songs, Christmas trees, Nativity scenes (crches), that racist Santa Claus dude, colored lights, and almost everything else that makes the season fun. Aside: Heres a good idea to get the whining wimps to buy-in. Why not call a crche, a three-sided homeless shelter? That PC label should stop their complaining. Nah. Who am I kidding? They love being miserable, and wantno, demandthe rest of us share their wretchedness.

Ive lived in the southwest desert for the past three Decembers. Sand substitutes for snow, and Saguaros for snowmenexcept for the blow-up kind from Walmart, and we have enough sunshine to lay some off on Pittsburgh. Kay still goes over-the-top decorating the inside of our home, and music by dead people fills the airBing Crosby, David Seville, Gene Autry, Ray Conniff, Nat King Cole, the Andrews Sisters, Mel Torme, Natalie Cole, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Perry Como

Come to think of it, in my youth decorating wasnt nearly as lavish as depicted in the made-for-TV movies. Mainly, we had a real tree with a few strands of lights, and colored spherical ornaments. You mainly saw the tree, not solid lights and hanging knick-knacks with no part of the tree visible. The rest of our home, and others, basically looked the same, that is undecorated, although some people did string colored outside lights on their eaves.

Kay grew up in Southern California where decorating throughout the house was typical maybe to make up for lack of a Winter climate. Her mom also loved the holiday season; and I suspect Kay relives her youth, and remembers her late mother during the process of converting our home into a Christmas showplace. When we lived in a home with three floors, there were four trees along with every other kind of Christmas paraphernalia. Me, I still enjoy the season as much as I did as a youngster, but no longer feel the excitement in the pit of my stomach that festooning a home used to bring. Dont get me wrong, I still like the look of the house when everything is done, but the prevailing thought that nags me constantly is what a pain in the rear its going to be to take it all down and stow it when the season passes. Other than that Grinch-like sentiment, all is well. I enjoy the smells, music, gatherings, drinks, and food. Im ambivalent about shopping, receiving and wrapping presents; and absolutely annoyed with the vocal minority of whining, tightly-sphinctered, politically correct, so-called progressive (actually regressive) steaming lumps of excrement in society than insist the season is racist and/or offensive.

In a few days, our community is going to have a ChristmaserHoliday Parade that ends up at the bandstand where a local band will play. For the benefit of our local Shalom Club, a really nice collection of friends and neighbors, I will present a Chanukah song about a dreidel that spins off the counter, down the stairs, out the door, and drills into the ground where a tree grows with millions of dreidels for all. That will be my tribute to Judas Maccabeus, the hammer, who led the Hasmoneans in kicking the crap out of Seleucid forces.

Bottom line: I consider myself fortunate for having grown up in the Golden Age of Hallmark Christmas when the scenes were real, not a mirageand free of people who attempt to stamp out anything and everything that brings joy. With that in mind, Merry Christmas, Seasons Greetings, Happy Holidays (select one).

By the Spirit of Christmas Present himself (aka Gene Myers), a right jolly old elf.
